Day 30: Red King 3

Red King 3

Ink on Bristol

42.5 x 15 cm

More pics of sketches and scans on my blog.

Oh. That’s it? Thirty days already? Somehow the last two weeks just blurred past…

I’ll miss this concentrated burst of creativity, but I won’t mind re-claiming some of my day.

It has been a month of incredible output from all participants, and a real honour to post my work alongside everyone else’s each day.

I’m looking forward to announcing a show of some work and to hearing of similar announcements from others. Keep passing the word about Thirty Days Project.

Here’s to the next one!

Ink and gouache.

I was trying to use nib pen on the gouache but the ink wouldn’t flow. Tried to save it with a dry brush. Not happy with the results.

Day 14: Gan-Q

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Gan-Q

Ink on watercolour paper.

35.5 x 51 cm

Fun to work with a fat, loaded brush and let the tool dictate the character of the lines.

Also, using a toothbrush as a cheap air-brush is something I haven’t done since I was 12. I’m trying to restrain myself, but it’s such a beautiful texture.

Day 12: Pigmon 2

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Pigmon 2

Acrylic, ink transfer on panel.

46 x 38 cm

I have been creating effects like this digitally for some time. It is a real pleasure to puzzle out ways to create them in traditional media. Today involved a lot of different equipment and experimentation, including a surprisingly effective printer hack. I’m really enjoying the hands-on experience, although scanning this was a nightmare.

Buska

Pixel art, done in Photoshop.

I’ve always wanted to try pixel art. It takes a long time, and a lot of clicks. My shoulder is so tight right now.
